ANIME AND THE BIBLE

DEATH NOTE: RYUK AND APPLES

In this video, Ryuk feels withdrawal symptoms from apples and even claims that apples to him are the same as alcohol and cigarettes to humans.

Ryuk is the shinigami also known as a grim reaper who drops his death note out of boredom. Light is the person who happens to pick it up. As the series continues, Ryuk becomes obsessed with apples. This is actually a reference to the forbidden fruit in the Book of Genesis. They say that an apple was what the snake tempted Eve with to become closer to god. Light's god complex as stated before happens after Ryuk eats his first apple, hereby committing the first sin.

Berserk: Griffith's Resurrection

Griffith is one of the main protagonist in the Berserk series. At first, Griffith is a very kind and charming young man who values crew of men. This turns however once he falls in love with a royal princess and sleeps with her. Griffith is than caught, tortured, and starved. Once Griffith is finally found, he has lost his mind. He is on the verge of death till he becomes resurrected. We have also seen this in the bible when Jesus was tortured and crucified only to be reborn again.

THE SEVEN DEADLY SINS

In Japanese anime, the seven deadly sins known in the christian bible, often appear as the villains in a series. The christian bible describes lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy and pride as sins that people commit. In anime however, they are often seen as manifestations. Both the bible and anime depiction of these sins have the same outcome. This being that those who sin will face punishment.

These are the seven deadly sins manifestation that appear in the anime Full Metal Alchemist where they are seen as the main group of villains. In the end, they are all punished with death.

The Netflix Animated Original series called "The Seven Deadly Sins." take a different perspective compared to Full Metal Alchemist. The series shows the sins struggles and them actually repenting and find themselves wanting forgiveness rather than just accepting their faith. They believe that god will forgive them despite their past. This is more close to our christian beliefs, we believe that god will forgive us for our sins no matter what. That is the same case here.
